Two models were created to test and evaluate the hypothesis
formulated for this research project and further understand the conditions of
the hyporheic system. The first model is
called the permeameter model. The permeameter model contains two “cylinders”
with the smaller cylinder located at the center of the large cylinder and
penetrated the soil to a depth of L. No flow boundaries are located between the
two cylinders simulating the thickness of the small cylinder. They are also
located at the very edge of the system on all sides to contain all flow in the
system. The other critical component of this model is that the Head value of
the inner cylinder is higher than the other cylinder so that the water flow
down the inner cylinder and then up to the surface of the system. MATLAB takes
these system conditions as well as the input for different soil cases and
outputs the overall system K value (hydraulic conductivity).
I need to talk to you about how much detail I need to go into about what exactly MATLAB calculates. What is necessary to say about the code and what it does?
